| Mission Statement: | The Devereux New Jersey Center for Autism, which provides special, educational and residential services, is committed to providing high quality habilitation and educational programs to multi-disabled students with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. Students accepted into this program may exhibit severe adaptive skill deficits that require intensive instructional programming. Our goal is to foster the development of functional and age-appropriate skills which ensure a high quality of life. An individualized plan of skill development in the areas of domestic living, functional academics and preparation for work, recreation/leisure, and community skills enhancement is developed for each student by a team of individuals composed of the students' parents, their teachers, and other experts in the field of education, psychology, social work, and behavior analysis. The teaching plan that is developed is derived from methods of demonstrated effectiveness and objectively evaluated to ensure each student is learning new skills and that the educational plan is achieving its intended objectives. Devereux-NJCA is a clinically focused program with proven client outcome results. Our ratio is one adult per three clients with the assistance of an Instructional Aide in each classroom. Every student has an Individualized Education Plan and Behavior Support Plan.
